Paris Café Series: La Coupole Review

La Coupole was our second café stop on our Paris trip. I’ve been wanting to try this place out since the last time I was in Paris but unfortunately got food poisoning and couldn’t make it out. So, this time, I made the extra effort to come and try this place out. I wanted to come here because of its long history, but also because Chanel held their 2019/2020 métiers d’art fashion show after-party here so you know it has to be a special place.

LA COUPOLE REVIEW

// Food //

We ordered our standard coffee (café americain) and croissant again since we came during breakfast time. Let me tell you, I’ve never eaten so many croissants in my life. I never eat them at home but for some reason, I feel like I have to eat them when I’m in Paris. The croissant was the usual standard size but the coffee that gave us was in this huge cup. It was almost the size of my face.

// Cost //

This was probably the most affordable breakfast we had the whole trip. We got the “petit déjeuner express” which comes with an espresso and croissant for only 4.5 euros. So, for both of us, we only spent 9 euros ($10.45 USD). Of course, we substituted our espresso for our usual café americain (espresso with water) but was surprised that they didn’t charge us extra which we appreciated. The tip was also already included in the price.

// Where to Sit //

We were seated indoors automatically. There was no one sitting outside and I’m not even sure if they seat people outside for breakfast. We actually didn’t mind sitting inside since it was chilly that morning anyways. The restaurant does not face the sun (at least in the mornings) so we would have been cold if we sat outside. The interior is divided up into the main dining room and the lounge area. Everyone was mostly seated in the lounge area except for one large group of 20 people in the dining room.

// Service //

La Coupole was pretty slow when we went. There were only a couple of tables seated inside and were mostly singles working on their laptop or friends chatting it up. Our server was quick to get our order and spoke English without a problem. After that, we were kind of left alone, which was fine since we were taking pictures anyways. We did have to chase our server down for the bill at the end but otherwise, the service was fine. It was a quiet and relaxing morning versus the franticness that we experienced at Café de la Paix.

// French Health Pass //

Yes, they do check for your French Health Pass or temporary QR code, but I was able to just use my CDC vaccination card and passport.

// Would I Come Again //

I probably would come to La Coupole again but probably for dinner. I think it’s more of a restaurant than your typical small Paris café. The restaurant has massive interior and exterior seating areas, two separate bars, and a cold seafood station. Also, I didn’t know this until later but La Coupole has a famous Indian lamb curry that they’ve been serving since 1927. If I come back, I’m definitely ordering that!
