MGM Grand Buffet Review

I probably haven’t eaten at the MGM Grand Buffet in probably a decade. I usually don’t go to buffets anymore unless there’s a good deal or if one of my friends wants to go really bad. So, when I finally snagged a myVEGAS Reward for an MGM Grand 2-for-1 Buffet deal, I thought it would be fun to check it out after all these years and post-pandemic. Seeing that this is such a hard reward to get, I wanted to write about it so all of you lovely readers can determine if they really want to spend time trying to get this reward or not. Hopefully, this will give you some valuable insight!

What is the myVEGAS game?

If you haven’t heard of the myVEGAS game for iPhone, Andriod, and Facebook, you are missing out on some seriously great deals. Long story short, it’s a bunch of free games that you can play to earn real-life rewards in Las Vegas and other participating destinations. If you are interested in learning more, I’ve made a separate detailed post about it here.

How Much is the MGM Grand 2-for-1 Buffet Deal?

The MGM Grand 2-for-1 Buffet deal will cost you 10,000 loyalty points.

Is the Deal Only Good For Breakfast?

The MGM Grand 2-for-1 Buffet deal specifically says it’s supposed to be for “breakfast,” but we went during lunch and they accepted our reward. I know in the confirmation email you get, it states in the fine print that it’s for breakfast only, but since we are still recovering from the pandemic, I think they are letting you use this for lunch as well. Especially, since there’s no separate price for breakfast and lunch and they serve both meals throughout the day.

Strategy to Get the myVEGAS MGM Grand 2-for-1 Buffet Deal

This myVEGAS reward deal is probably one of the harder ones to get a hold of. It seems to be always sold out, but how I got it was to just consistently check throughout the day if the rewards have refreshed. I know around 11:00 a.m. PST, all the rewards seem to consistently refresh for me. The exact time is different each day, but I usually check around that time. I also check sometimes at night after 10:00 p.m. Just be diligent and you’ll eventually be able to get one.

How To Redeem Your myVEGAS Reward

As with most of your rewards, you will have to visit an MGM Rewards Desk (formally Mlife) with your player’s card to redeem your reward. They will load it onto your card and then you will give your card to the front desk host at the buffet. As for all myVEGAS rewards, you have to redeem them at your own specific reward hotel. For example, you cannot try to load your MGM Grand 2-for-1 Buffet deal at Bellagio. You have to go specifically to MGM Grand.

Also, when I was there, it took me almost 30 minutes to get through the MGM Rewards Desk line to load the reward onto my player’s card. I don’t know if all day is like this, but I had to stand in this long line twice (I forgot to load my other rewards on there the first time). My point is to make sure you account for waiting in the MGM Rewards line if you want to get to the buffet at a certain time.

When is the MGM Grand Buffet Open?

The MGM Grand Buffet is currently only open for breakfast and lunch from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. daily. It is unknown when they will start serving dinner again.

How Much is the MGM Grand Buffet?

We went on a Sunday so the price for the buffet was $36.99/person. Since we used the 2-for-1 myVEGAS reward redemption, our total price came out to $40.99 (not including the tip).

Overall MGM Grand Buffet Review

If you are a true buffet fan, I would take the MGM Grand Buffet off your places to-eat list. The buffet consisted of your basic American food that you can probably find elsewhere and for a cheaper price. I wasn’t expecting a lot since I feel like a lot of Las Vegas buffets haven’t really recovered yet, but I still felt like I got less than what I got back pre-pandemic. I will say that I was surprised that they had oysters though, but no crab legs. Also, they had soft-serve ice cream machines but no toppings. Like, aren’t ice cream toppings basic?

The MGM Grand Buffet would only be worth it if you got the 2-for-1 deal and are trying to consume quantity rather than quality. For me, it’s hard to justify spending $36.99 plus tax+tip for just average food. If you are a true foodie, I would save your money for something like the Wynn Buffet. Otherwise, if you are an endless food-eating machine, this place will certainly fit the bill.
