For the third installment of my luxury shopping guide, we’re going to visit the Christian Dior Hawaii Waikiki store on Luxury Row. This store is located in the T Galleria Shopping Mall which is a duty-free mall. This means, in addition to the special Hawaii discount, you don’t have to pay any tax. It’s like a double discount! Unfortunately, not everything is discounted though. For example, women’s shoes do not have a special Hawaii discount, but men’s shoes do. Also, there’s no overall set discount percentage. Instead, it’s dependent on what item you buy. Whatever price you see on the sticker has the discount already included.

It is also worth noting that the rest of the T Galleria is indefinitely closed due to the COVID pandemic. I asked the sales associate if the rest of the mall will ever reopen and she said that it’s probably closed forever. She doesn’t know what’s going to take over and that the Christian Dior store was the only store left open at the moment. So, if you are planning to go to Waikiki and wanted to buy something from Dior, I would recommend doing it real soon. You’ll never know if they will have to relocate and then you’ll lose out on the tax-free deal.

I didn’t buy anything from the store this time, but last year I did buy a pair of the J’adior Slingback Pumps. Even though women’s shoes weren’t discounted, I didn’t have to spend anything on the tax which saved me about $95. You could probably go to a place that has no sales tax like Portland (Oregon), but in my experience, those places usually don’t have a wide variety or are well-stocked. The safer bet in my experience has always been Hawaii.

 

WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN DIOR HAWAII DISCOUNT THEN?

I asked the sales associate what the range of the special Dior Hawaii discount would be and she really couldn’t give me a straight answer. All she said was that it ranges per item. After doing a little calculation (see below), it looks like it can range somewhere between 7%-10% on women’s purses at least. Also, I probably didn’t make it clear on my other posts, but these stores are NOT outlet stores. These stores are just the regular stores you’ll see back at home, but they have special pricing just for Hawaii.

 

SERVICE AT CHRISTIAN DIOR

The lady that helped me around the store was super nice and informative. She let us browse around the store without being too clingy. If you’ve read my other blog posts (Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent), you’ll know that it really annoys me when the sales associates are literally following you everywhere around the store. Luckily, I felt like the Dior store was a perfect balance. The sales associate even gave me her number in case I wanted to look up prices for other items that were on the website. They actually can send you a special link that has the Dior Hawaii prices on it, which I thought was cool.
